Bridging the gap between policy and people.

Inclusive Emergency Services for the Hearing and Speech Impaired

Pinaca India, in collaboration with Asha Kiran, a prominent vocational training centre for persons with disabilities in Chandigarh, crafted an extensive proposal aimed at revolutionising emergency communication in Haryana. The proposal advocated for the implementation of a Video Relay System (VRS) to significantly enhance emergency communication for individuals who are hearing or speech impaired. This forward-thinking recommendation was submitted to the Chief Minister of Haryana and subsequently led to the successful launch of a VRS-enabled 112 Emergency Helpline. The new system integrates Sign Language Interpretation across all emergency services, ensuring that the hearing and speech impaired have equal access to urgent assistance

    Key Highlights:

  • Integration of VRS in the 112 Emergency Helpline.

  • All emergency services in Haryana now provide Sign Language Integration.

  • Ensures that hearing and speech-impaired individuals have equal access to emergency services.
